Two Photography Assignments for the Week

This week you will have 2 photo assignments.

1) Blur/Motion/Action. You must capture action or motion in a picture. Look at my Pinterest board HERE to see some examples of Blur/Motion/Action. After you are sure you have taken the best action/blur/motion picture, edit it and post it to our class site on Shutterfly and create a blog post for your blog and include a description paragraph.

2) Shoe Triptych. For this assignment the rules are take a picture of a shoe (or shoes) and present 3 images. So, you could take a picture of 3 different pairs of shoes, or 3 different shoes, or one pair of shoes with 3 different backgrounds. This is up to you. You must present 3 images collaged in one to upload to our class site on Shutterfly. Also, post to your blog with a description paragraph.

Photography Assignment: Close Up Portraits

Due Date: Thursday, November 3.
We only have a few days left for this class. Our next assignment will be Close Up Portraits. People say the eyes can tell you about a person's soul. The eyes are a very powerful tool in a photograph. Use a close up of a person to create emotion. Show emotion of some kind. Use your peers as your subjects. You should use light editing tools for this assignment.

I have a Pinterest board with examples of Close Up Portraits for you to reference for examples.

Photography - Graphic Design/Advertising

Good afternoon photography students. Today you will be looking at advertising photography. You will be taking a picture to create an ad for a product. You need to hold a photo shoot and then take your image to the computer to edit and ad information for your product. This will be a three day project. When you are finished you will upload your ad to our Shutterfly class page.

Go to the following Pinterest link to see a variety of advertising photography.

Day 1: Research Advertising Photography. Find out what you like and what you don't like. What would you like to photograph and then think what are the possibilities that you can photograph it (We don't live by the ocean, so I would not have photograph an ad including an image of the ocean as a reasonable goal for this assignment). What props do you need to take your pictures?

Day 2: Make it happen. Set up and photograph your subject. Take many pictures so you have lots of options.

Day 3: Edit your image on the computer. Photoshop is your friend :) .

Close Up Nature Photography

Hello Photography Class,

We are starting today with Close Up Nature Photography.
To start, I would like you to visit this site and read about iPhone photography for nature.
http://iphonephotographyschool.com/nature/

Here is another site for close up nature photography.
http://www.digital-photo-secrets.com/tip/3051/7-tips-for-how-to-take-close-up-photos-of-nature/

Please visit my Pinterest Board: Photography: Close Up Nature
https://www.pinterest.com/stephaniemom/photography-close-up-nature/

When you take your Close Up Nature picture there are points to remember:

  • Clarity: You want crisp clear photos. If they are not clear, take more pictures
  • Rule of Thirds: Don't put your subject directly in the middle of your frame. Move your subject off a bit to the left or right, whichever way the subject opens to the image, move it to the opposite side.
  • Take LOTS of pictures to have lots of options.

After you take your Close Up Nature picture, load your images to your computer and use an editing tool to tweak your image, don't over filter your picture though. Then post it to our Shutterfly class site please.

Thank You!

Photography Day 2

Good Afternoon Photographers!

Today we are going to take a look at different photographers and their work.
I have generated a list of photographers and places to view their work. Please look through the list and look at their work. Choose a photographer whose work you would like to research a bit more.

You will be creating a Google Slide/Prezi/Interesting Digital presentation on a photographer. Focus on your layout, typography, color and balance. Design of this presentation is as important as the research you are proving in the presentation.

  • Please include 5-10 slides in your presentation.
  • Use at least 8 pictures of their work you would like to share with the class.
  • Artist's Name - Bio, Education, Upbringing, Art Experience
  • Did your artist work in other mediums?
  • Why is her/she a photographer
  • What inspires his/her work
  • Has your artist encountered any hardships in his/her life that are directly related to their work?

Abba Richman
Dorthea Lange
Ralph Eugene Meatyard
Richard Avedon
Iain MacMillan
David Wojnarowicz
Andy Warhol
Ciril Jazbec
David Lindsey Wade
Sarah Cheng-De Winne
Dimitris Theocharis
Thomas Kettner
Steve McCurry
Annie Leibovitz
Man Ray
Alfred Stieglitz

This is just a small list of photographers. Please continue and do your own research to find a photographer you like and would like to share with the class through this presentation.

Part 2 of this project: you need to choose one of your photographer's pieces of work and recreate it. You will then create a presentation piece placing the original and your photo together with a paragraph explaining your process of recreation.

Plan:

  • Day One: Research many photographers
  • Day Two: Research and choose an artist
  • Day Three: Research your photographer and gather information
  • Day Four-Seven: Using your digital tool, create your presentation
  • Day Eight-Nine: Recreate your artist's photograph
  • Day Ten: Edit and refine both pieces of your presentations.

Art Sink Closet

My art classroom is nestled in the middle of the hallway, surrounded by a math class, English class, computer lab, and the college room. We do not have a sink in our classroom. We have an "Art Sink Closet" across the hall from our classroom. This used to be the janitor's closet for supplies. We now share this closet with the janitors. Our Art Sink Closet holds various water containers, paint palettes, the sink and a small drying rack.
This is a picture of the paint filled sink ..... I wish students would clean supplies properly.....yet, it is kinda pretty.
